EASTSIDE ARTS FESTIVAL | not your heritage tour whose streets whose stories

Join us for a unique tour exploring the hidden stories of our streets and the rich history they hold!
A walking tour through Strathcona & Chinatown exploring heritage as lived experience: connections, relationships, and everyday encounters, not just history. This isn’t a history lesson. We’re not here to memorize plaques or glorify the past.
We’re here to explore how heritage lives now, to think together about the relationships people have with places, and why those relationships matter today. Heritage lives in murals, gardens, alleyways, artist spaces, nondescript shopfronts and buildings, and in the lives and stories of the people who are still here, who depend on these places.
As we move through the neighbourhood together, we’ll pause to ask real questions:
This is about showing up with curiosity and care. It’s about recognizing that culture doesn’t just live in museums—it’s alive in the streets, in community, in resistance, and in everyday moments. It’s about how neighbourhoods function like ecosystems, supporting ways of living and identity.
Come walk, listen, reflect, and share. Your presence matters. Your story matters. You’re part of this place, too.
We will meet at the southeast corner of Carrall and East Pender Street.
This walking tour is presented in partnership with Heritage Vancouver Society.
