    Expand your artistic horizons and discover this exciting New Ground! Typically, it is Gesso, the white material that seals your canvas, but in this exciting workshop you can explore painting on a panel prepped with Absorbent Ground. Using Fluid Acrylics and Mica Flake Medium to add textural details to create a stunning, watercolour-style abstract landscape painting you’ll be proud to hang or give as a gift! Everything included, just bring your open mind. This is a great workshop for all levels.

    DATES & TIMES:

    • Sunday, July 27 at 10am, 1pm, and 3:30pm

    LENGTH: 2 hours

    LOCATION: 1000 Parker St. Studios #208. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your workshop time to allow time to check in. There will be somone to help you check-in outside of 1000 Parker.

    AGES: Adults (ages 16 and up), Suitable for beginners and up

    PRICE: $35 per person per workshop

    ACCESSIBILITY: This studio is not wheelchair accessible. The studio is located up1 flight of stairs and there is no elevator avalaible. The building can get hot in afternoon during summer. We will communicate verbally with members of the public using listening and spoken language in English. Seating in the studio is varied, some may have chairs or stools at short height, counter, or bar height seating. Weight capacities of seating is unknown. Please let us know if you have any accessibility needs.

    About the Artist

    Sonya Iwasiuk is a contemporary mixed media artist and art educator who lives and works in Vancouver. Her artworks are often representative of her childhood years. Beautiful prairie landscapes and derelict buildings are portrayed using various media, including plaster, hand-rusted steel, found or repurposed objects and gold leaf. Sonya has developed unique techniques, large embossed acrylic skins, paintings on hand-rusted steel sheets, and engraved plaster. She continuously explores and experiments with new combinations of materials and methods to present her creative vision in a distinctive and contemporary way. This adventuring informs her art lessons, ensuring her teaching is always unique and fresh.
